Food blogging is weird. I’m allowed to say that because I am a (mostly) food blogger. I’ve been taking pictures as I cook for over 3 years, and now it’s just kind of become second nature. You set up lights in your kitchen, take multiple pictures of each step along the way (making the recipe prep time take way longer than it normally would), take pictures of the finished product while your dinner gets cold (just to get the perfect shot), move it over to the back door to try to utilize natural light, and leave your family waiting and starving because, “oh hey, this would look perfect with a half-full glass of milk with a decorative straw right next to the plate.”
Like I said, it’s weird! What’s even more weird? This weekend, I didn’t do ANY blog cooking. I made three recipes on Saturday, but I didn’t take pictures of any of them. And then Sunday afternoon rolled around, and I realized, what am I supposed to blog about on Tuesday?! Then it hit me – I can still tell you about the recipes I made, as they’re all from other food blogs – recipes that have been on my Pinterest boards just waiting to be made.
Full disclosure: I made these three things for a game night on Saturday night, and then didn’t take pictures of them until Sunday afternoon, because we were too busy having fun to stop for pictures. That means they’re all half-eaten. And I didn’t feel like pulling out my lights, so yes, they are sitting in front of my back door to take advantage of natural light.
If you can’t be honest on your blog, where can you be honest? Am I right?
1. Creamy Ranch and Cheese Bread Bowl Dip from Averie Cooks
This dip is exactly what it sounds like – creamy, cheesy, and ranch-y. I took out the center of a round King’s Hawaiian bread and put the dip in the center, then we used the bread pieces and wavy plain chips for dipping. So delicious, and crazy easy.
2. Meatball Sub on a Stick from Cookies and Cups
Right as I started to make these, I realized that I didn’t have skewers (oops!), so I improvised and made little bite-size meatball subs on toothpicks instead. They really do taste like a little meatball sub, and bonus, they reheat nicely the next day. I also couldn’t find the Pillsbury breadsticks, so I used the Pillsbury pizza crust. They were still delicious.
3. Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Dip from How to Nest for Less
Ok, just the name of this kind of makes me drool. It’s literally a Reese’s cup dip, you guys. That’s the dream, isn’t it? It’s creamy, it’s peanut buttery, and it goes great with both chocolate graham crackers (my grocery only had them in Avengers shapes) and granny smith apples. I’m sure it would also be good with just a spoon…
What are some of your favorite food blog recipes? Did you eat anything particularly awesome over the weekend?
