Out and About in North Carolina

01-08---edited
Over the past week, TJ and I have had the chance to check out a few local events and places around us. Now that the weather is nice, we’re trying to take full advantage of the cool places in our area, and since last Saturday, we’ve been able to check out 3 “new to us” places.

Phillips Strawberry Farm
On Saturday morning, TJ, my parents, and I went out to Phillips Farm in Cary to pick fresh strawberries. I’ve never picked strawberries before, so it was really fun to try out a new experience. Of course now my brain is swimming with so many delicious recipe ideas, and I can’t wait to do tons of cooking and baking with them.

Apex Peakfest
After we got our strawberries, we headed to Apex, for the annual Peakfest. It’s a festival that takes place in downtown Apex with tons of vendors selling a variety of things like handmade pottery, jewelry, and soaps. It was a lot of fun to be able to see tons of different local products and shops in one place, and the live music in the background was a nice touch.

Carolina Tiger Rescue
On Sunday night, we met up with our friends Nick and Kristin to check out the Carolina Tiger Rescue in Pittsboro. It’s a pretty amazing sanctuary that is home to a number of lions, tigers, cougars, etc. We went on a guided tour and got to see so many different amazing cats and hear all about their pasts and how they ended up at the Carolina Tiger Rescue. They are doing an amazing thing by helping these animals and creating an environment that’s as close to the wild as possible. If you’re in our general area, this is absolutely worth a trip to see. It was amazing!

Shout out to my awesome husband, TJ, who took all of the pictures from the Carolina Tiger Rescue – they turned out great!

Are you in the North Carolina area? Have you checked any of these places out?

Yes, I’m in Cary! I’m definitely going to have to go check out those places – thanks for sharing! I wanted to go to Peakfest but we ended up being out of town this past weekend.

You’ll have to let me know if you go to the Tiger Rescue or the strawberry farm! Too bad that you missed Peakfest, but I’m sure you had fun out of town!

The tiger sanctuary has been on my list for a while, but I just haven’t made it there yet. Is it a half-day type of trip, or maybe just an hour or two?

Hey Brianne – it was so much fun! Our tour took just under two hours, which was pretty perfect for what we were looking for. Let me know if you end up going!

I am also from the NC area! I haven’t been to these specific places but I would love to go strawberry picking! I also have been to a conservators center to see wild cats last fall. It was so cool! Thanks for sharing your adventures 🙂

Awesome! I love connecting with other NC bloggers! The strawberry picking was so fun, and the berries were some of the best I’ve ever had. Hope you get a chance to go at some point! 🙂
