Sesame Chicken

I absolutely love trying my hand at restaurant-style meals in the comfort of my own kitchen. Homemade meals (almost) always taste better, and there’s a lot of satisfaction that comes with producing a high quality meal on your own. I found this recipe while flipping through one of my mom’s really old cookbooks – the kind where everyone from the neighborhood compiles their recipes, and produces a book for everyone. What a great find! The best part about this dish is that while it does look like it came from a restaurant, it’s super easy to make – win/win!

Printable Recipe
Serves 2

ingredients:
4 chicken tenderloins, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp garlic powder
sesame seeds, to taste
1 package microwaveable brown rice

instructions:
Place the chicken in a shallow baking dish.

In a small bowl, combine the honey, brown sugar, soy sauce, and garlic powder. Stir until well combined.

Pour the sauce over the chicken, cover with foil, and bake at 325 for an hour.

After an hour has passed, uncover, and sprinkle the chicken with sesame seeds. Bake, uncovered, for another 30 minutes.

Prepare the rice, and top immediately with the chicken. We poured the extra sauce over our rice, because we loved the flavor so much.

Enjoy!

Just tried it, very good! A little bit sweet for my likening, but lightly salting the rice counteracted the sweetness well.

I made this recipe tonight and it was very tasty. I cut my chicken into bite size pieces and baked at 350 degrees for 35 minutes and it was cooked. (My oven does cook fast). Also, I didn’t have honey so I substituted agauve nectar which worked just as well. I also used a corning ware dish and I guess it wasn’t deep enough because now I am cleaning my oven. Oh well, it was worth it. Thanks for the recipe.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this recipe. My two boys who are picky eaters love this! When I made it for a second time, my five year old said yea, which never happens! Always trying to find something that is tasty and not a hassle to make after working all day. Thanks again, a new family favorite!

Mine was a little over cooked, I would recommend cooking for 30 mins because the bite size pieces cook rather quickly. Other than that, it was delicious! The sauce was so yummy, thanks so much for sharing such a great, easy recipe!

Thank you for sharing this recipe! Its become a regular addition to the weekly menu here at my house. I made a few changes (fresh garlic and a dash of sesame oil), but the original recipe is still wonderful just as it is.

I would cut back on the sugar, I found this dish very sweet. Otherwise easy to make πŸ™‚

Do you think this would work for cubes of beef instead of chicken? I think I’m going to give it a shot after thawing out a mystery bag of beef cubes in my freezer πŸ™‚

        Hi Ashley,
I’m glad I gave it a whirl, but I don’t think I’ll use the recipe for beef again. Something just tasted off – not sure what! I probably should have seared the meat first. I wouldn’t recommend it with beef. Thanks again for your recipe!
