Supermarket Healthy Cookbook Review

I received a copy of “Supermarket Healthy” by Melissa D’Arabian from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review. Now, let’s get to the fun stuff!

I was super excited to receive this cookbook for two reasons:
1. I watched Melissa’s season of Next Food Network Star, and I’ve been wanting to check out one of her books for a while
2. I was interested in seeing her tips on getting delicious, healthy food from an average grocery store, as opposed to a specialty “health store”

Well, I can officially say that Supermarket Healthy does not disappoint! The book is filled with beautiful pictures of some of the most delicious looking recipes. Melissa includes a few sentences before each recipe, explaining what makes the recipe healthier than usual, or substitutions that you can make, if desired. Best of all, the servings, prep time, and cooking time are all laid out in an easy-to-see format, so you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into before you get started.

She starts the book off with tips on getting the most out of your money at the grocery store and which items to stock up on.

There’s several healthy spins on classic dishes, like this baked potato soup that substitutes cauliflower for most of the potato.

She also puts together a few blueprints for customizable recipes that you can make to your liking, like a salad-in-a-jar, which would be so great for prepping lunches for the week!

I can’t wait until we’re back in our house with all of our cooking utensils so that I can dive in and make a bunch of the recipes from this book. What’s the first thing on my list to make? I’m glad you asked! It’s definitely this deconstructed lasagna.

Pick up a copy of Supermarket Healthy if you get a chance – you won’t be sorry!

Do you have a favorite healthy spin on a classic recipe?

I need to check this out! I always get on a healthy food kick, and then I get so overwhelmed by the lists of crazy, hard to find ingredients that I just give up and go to chick-fil-a.

This looks so awesome. I really need to invest in some cook books now that I’m an adult. Pinterest just seems so much easier some times – but books are so pretty!!! I might have to try this one!

I feel the same way – cookbooks are so pretty to look at! My mom has an awesome collection of cookbooks and cooking magazines, so I tend to treat her shelf as my own little cooking library and borrow stuff all the time. Little by little I’ve started to acquire my own collection too, and I never get tired of flipping through them and drooling over the delicious looking pictures.
