The 5 Senses of Christmas 2013

christmas-2013

Is it just me or is December 26th one of the saddest days of the year? The excitement and anticipation for Christmas that has been building for the last month is all over, just like that, and other than New Year’s Eve, there’s not too much to look forward to for a while. To try to savor just a few more moments of the Christmas season, I thought it’d be fun to do a list of the 5 senses of my Christmas yesterday. Basically, a list of the senses that you would have experienced if you spent Christmas with my family.

Sight:
My parents’ beautiful Christmas tree that was covered head to toe in the ornament collection that they’ve been building since before I was born.

Sound:
A Christmas Story playing in the background throughout the day. We always watch it all the way through on Christmas Eve, and then turn it on every once in a while on Christmas day to catch some of our favorite parts.

Taste:
This peanut butter cup trifle is a Christmas dessert that my mom has been making for years, and this year it was my first time making it. It’s so, so delicious, and one of my favorite parts of Christmas dinner. I’ll have to share the recipe on here one day.

Touch:
Two of the coolest gifts I got this year are these prompted journals (one about my life in general and one about how we celebrate our anniversary each year). They’ve both got a nice textured cover and I can’t wait to fill them with little stories and memories.

Smell:
On Christmas Eve each member of my family opens one present before we go to bed. A few weeks before Christmas we each pick one person’s name as our Secret Santa, and we buy them their Christmas Eve gift. This year, TJ got my name and he bought me this three-wick candle in Party Dress. It smells awesome, and we had it burning for several hours during the holiday.

I’d love to hear about the little things that made up your Christmas!

Great post! I love the journal idea. I bought my husband something similar last Christmas where it asks you a question every day for a year and then you repeat it for 5 years. It’ll be interesting to see how his answers have changed over the years.
    Happy holidays!
