In my family, we have a lot holiday traditions. We go pick out a fresh Christmas tree from a local lot, we watch Home Alone 2 and quote our favorite parts along with the actors, and we have pizza for dinner on every single Christmas Eve. A few times, we’ve ordered it in from a restaurant, but for the most part, my parents make it from scratch every year, and it’s delicious! I look forward to Christmas Eve so much, knowing that my parents will make their pizza, we’ll watch parts of the 24-hour showing of A Christmas Story, we’ll each open one present, and then my dad will read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas before we all go to bed. It truly is one of my favorite days of the year!

When Mezzetta offered me the chance to incorporate their products into one of my favorite holiday recipes, I immediately knew I wanted to share my parents’ pizza recipe! Before I go into the details on how to make one of the greatest pizzas of all time, let me tell you all little about how awesome Mezzetta products are first. Mezzetta has been family owned since 1935, and the fourth generation of the Mezzetta family is continuing the commitment to bring their customers the highest quality foods available. They source the finest fresh produce from the sun-drenched soils of California, Italy, Spain, France, and Greece and prepare them according to their Italian family recipes in the Napa Valley.

Is your mouth watering yet? If you can’t wait to get your hands on some Mezzetta products (like the cocktail onions and the roasted bell peppers that we put on our pizza!), then you’re in luck! Spread a little flour on the counter, then work the dough with your hands until it it smooth, or about 5 minutes. The dough will still be slightly sticky, but if it is too sticky to work with, you can add additional flour as needed.

Cover the dough with the bowl, and allow to sit for 10 minutes. While the dough is sitting, slice the Mezzetta bell peppers and onions.

Place a piece of parchment paper on a pizza pan. Use your hands to stretch the dough into a circle, then place on the parchment paper and use the heel of your hands to stretch the crust to about 1/4 inch.
